Our guest today is Dr Laavanya Damodaran, a Consultant Paediatric Liaison Neuropsychiatrist that works at Birmingham Children's Hospital in Birmingham, UK (Birmingham Women's and Children's NHS Foundation Trust). She also continues to serve as Vice Chair for the Royal College of Psychiatrist, Paediatric Liaison Network.
Laavanya is passionate about the health care of children and adolescents at the interface of physical and psychiatric health as well as neurodevelopmental conditions including Tic Disorder, Autism, ADHD etc.
Tic disorder symptoms following brain injury have been referred to as Tourettism, secondary tics, new onset tics etc. Case reports, case series, retrospective cohort studies and review papers of these have been summarised in this webinar. Incidence might be sporadic and potentially under reported. This could be mitigated with robust assessments, investigations, treatments and detailed recording of these cases with a longitudinal follow-up study design which, as she believes, might shed more light into this intriguing topic.
