Thank you everyone for joining us at the Royal Museum for Central Africa and making the 15th European Conference a memorable and triple record-breaking journey!
Loud applause for the young researchers for moving the field forward! 👏
A special and carefully crafted surprise marked the opening ceremony; on the day of her birthday, also known as International Tourette Syndrome Awareness Day, the legendary Mary Robertson graced us with her presence and took the stage to present the PMR Award 🏆 for research contribution 2023.
An important addition to the main conference; the TS-school, a training course for TS beginners who are interested in the clinical aspects of TS. The first TS-school was launched on the day preceding the meeting.
A heartfelt thank you and congratulations to our host organiser, Dr Seonaid Anderson of Neuro-Diverse.org, for undertaking this challenge and delivering a true labour-of-love Brussels meeting.
And as a new ESSTS friend pointed out at the meeting, with attendees spanning 20 countries from Australia to Canada, the "E" in our initials clearly stands for...EVERYONE is invited!

As promised when we first introduced controversy discussions followed by live polling during the Hannover meeting in 2019, it was indeed only the beginning!
This year, 2 esteemed colleagues from the University of Calgary, Tamara Pringsheim and Davide Martino took the stage and debated on a genuinely controversial topic; are functional tics easy to diagnose?
As you can see from the results...no landslide victory for either debater, yet Tamara's smile says it all! 💪

This year, we introduced live polling for the ePoster and oral presentation awards, but also for our first (though certainly not last!) controversy, titled:
“Is it time to rename Tourette syndrome?”

Of note, the discussion with the audience was lively and could easily have gone on for much longer. To be continued in Lausanne on this and other topics!
