Dr Ida Cintin presents a longitudinal cohort study on rage attacks in Tourette syndrome, conducted at the specialist Tourette Clinic at Herlev Hospital, Copenhagen.
The study enrolled 340 children with Tourette syndrome and 81 controls at baseline (mean age ~11–12), with 227 patients reassessed six years later. Rage attacks were significantly more prevalent in the Tourette cohort at both time points. Tic severity was independently associated with rage attacks at baseline after adjusting for comorbidities, and ADHD symptoms, particularly hyperactivity and impulsivity, as well as OCD showed similar baseline associations that did not persist at follow-up. Notably, ADHD symptoms at baseline predicted rage attacks at follow-up, suggesting ADHD as an early risk marker.
She discusses explanatory frameworks and stresses the clinical need for routine rage-attack screening in Tourette patients with comorbid ADHD and OCD.
Dr Ida Cintin is a medical doctor from Copenhagen, Denmark.During the last year of her medical studies, she found her way to the Tourette Clinic at Herlev Hospital, where she did research with Dr Nanette Mol Debes. Here she worked on a clinical study of PANDAS/PANS and began her research on rage attacks in Tourette syndrome.She is currently working as a PhD Student at the department of Growth and Reproduction at Copenhagen University Hospital (Rigshospitalet) where she studies associations between minipuberty and neurocognitive development.
