This webinar explores placebo response in clinical trials, beginning with the distinction between placebo response and placebo effect and the psychological and biological mechanisms underlying them. It then examines placebo response across psychiatric disorders, with a final focus on findings from a systematic review and meta-analysis of Tourette’s disorder.
Pedro Macul, MD, PhD, is a child and adolescent psychiatrist based in São Paulo, Brazil. He completed his medical degree, psychiatric residency, and doctorate in Psychiatry at the University of São Paulo (FMUSP).
Dr. Macul also conducted international research fellowships at the Harvard School of Public Health and the Yale Child Study Center. He currently serves as a collaborating researcher at the Institute of Psychiatry of the University of São Paulo (IPq-USP), maintains a private clinical practice treating youth and adults, with a focus on OCD, ADHD, and anxiety disorders, and develops psychiatric educational programs, including partnerships with the Neurotorium Institute.
